Job description

You’re the kind of engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, not just delivering tickets.

This role is suited to someone who thinks deeply about systems, scalability, and software design. Someone who cares about how applications evolve over time, how they perform under pressure, and how engineering decisions impact the wider product.

You’ll join a highly collaborative product engineering team building complex software used within heavily regulated industries. The systems need to be secure, reliable, scalable, and designed with long-term maintainability in mind.

The environment is backend focused, with the majority of engineering work centred around architecture, APIs, data modelling, system performance, and platform reliability. Alongside building new functionality, you’ll also contribute to improving existing systems, reducing technical debt, and shaping how the platform evolves.

You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, and DevOps teams to design and deliver software that operates at enterprise scale while maintaining the speed and agility of a smaller

The current stack includes Symfony, PostgreSQL, and Vue.js, though strong engineers from other modern backend environments are encouraged to apply. If you’ve worked extensively with PHP, Laravel, Java, or .NET and are comfortable moving into a Symfony-driven ecosystem, you’ll be well suited to the role.

This is a position where engineering quality genuinely matters. Clean architecture, performance, testing, and thoughtful design are all highly valued.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Designing and building scalable backend systems
  • Taking ownership of key product areas across the full software lifecycle
  • Working on performance, scalability, and security challenges
  • Collaborating with Product and DevOps on technical direction
  • Contributing to architecture and system design decisions
  • Improving and modernising existing functionality
  • Writing maintainable, well-tested code
  • Supporting a clean, sustainable engineering environment
What They’re Looking For
  • Strong experience building complex applications at scale
  • Commercial experience with PHP or other backend languages such as Java or .NET
  • Understanding of modern architectural approaches such as DDD or CQRS
  • Experience working with relational databases including PostgreSQL
  • Ability to work across the stack when needed
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience within product-led engineering environments
  • Engineers who have worked in both fast-moving startups/scaleups and more structured enterprise environments are likely to thrive here, as the role combines elements of both.
  • Collaborative engineering culture with fast decision making
  • Small, high-performing team with strong ownership mentality
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging systems with real-world impact
