We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our Technology Applications Development & Support Team and play a key role in developing, integrating and supporting the applications that underpin services across the Council, including Social Care, Education, Housing, Planning and Finance. The role combines software development with application support, offering a varied and rewarding opportunity to work on both bespoke and third-party systems.

The Senior Software Engineer role provides specialist second-line application support and technical expertise for a large portfolio of business-critical Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications. Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, maintain and integrate high-quality software solutions and applications to meet business requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into secure, scalable and reliable technical solutions.
  • Lead technical aspects of application development projects through the full software lifecycle.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet operational needs.
  • Support user acceptance testing and ensure the successful implementation of new functionality.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and development standards.
  • Support and enhance business-critical applications across key Council services including Housing, Social Care & Education, Planning, Building Control, Land Charges and Finance.
  • Provide second-line application support, troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues, working with suppliers where required.
  • Deliver system improvements, upgrades and application optimisations.
  • Ensure applications remain compliant with legislative, regulatory and security requirements.
  • Support the Council's digital transformation agenda through system modernisation, automation and service improvements.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Council's six priorities and commitment to putting residents first.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking technology team and contribute to major digital transformation programmes that support residents, communities and Council services. You'll work on a wide range of technologies and projects while developing your skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
