TD Securities is seeking a Senior Java Engineer for the Compliance & Supervision Technology group in Belfast. You will lead engineering efforts across regulatory technology initiatives, driving end-to-end delivery of scalable, secure solutions with API-first and microservice architectures.

Qualifications
- 8+ years of technology delivery and software engineering experience.
- 3+ years leading engineering teams in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

- Engineering Leadership: lead a high-performing engineering team, establish standards, ensure quality and operational stability, mentor junior developers.
- Technology Delivery: own end-to-end delivery of strategic Compliance and Supervision technology initiatives, collaborate across product, architecture, infrastructure, security, and vendors.
- Architecture & Solution Design: provide oversight for distributed systems, API-first, event-driven, microservices, cloud-native architectures, and secure data integration.

Senior Java Engineer – Compliance and Supervision Technology Summary: We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join Compliance & Supervision Technology in TD Securities. The role shapes technology solutions that meet regulatory obligations, strengthen supervisory controls, and manage conduct and trade-related risks. The role requires you to work across Compliance & Supervision for Global Markets. You will be responsible for leading the design, development, delivery, and operational support of technology solutions that enable regulatory compliance, surveillance, supervision, and control oversight functions. This role combines technology leadership, and delivery accountability across strategic regulatory and business initiatives. The role partners closely with Compliance, Risk, Data, and Business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, resilient, and regulator-ready solutions.
- Engineering Leadership
- Help build and lead a high-performing engineering team across multiple delivery streams.
- Help establish engineering standards, development practices, and quality controls.
- Drive accountability for solution design, code quality, testing, deployment, and operational stability.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and career development to junior developers in the team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence.
- Technology Delivery
- Own end-to-end delivery of strategic Compliance and Supervision technology initiatives.
- Coordinate across multiple teams including product, architecture, infrastructure, security, and vendors.
- Ensure solutions meet business objectives while adhering to enterprise architecture & security standards.
- Drive Agile delivery practices and continuous delivery methodologies.
- Architecture & Solution Design
- Provide technical oversight for enterprise-scale distributed systems.
- Build and support API first, event-driven, microservices, and cloud-native architecture.
- Ensure integration between vendor platforms, proprietary systems, and enterprise data services.
- Review and approve solution designs for scalability, resiliency, maintainability, and security.
- Promote reuse and common platform capabilities across workstreams.
- Regulatory & Control Alignment
- Ensure technology solutions support regulatory obligations, supervisory requirements, and compliance controls.
- Embed auditability, traceability, entitlement controls, evidencing capabilities, and monitoring into system designs.
- Support internal audits, regulatory reviews, remediation programs, and control assessments.
- Strong hands-on Java development experience, JDK 17+ preferred.
- Rest/GraphQL APIs using Spring Boot or any similar.
- Strong SQL experience with any RDBMS.
- Working experience with messaging technologies like Kafka or similar.
- Must have experience with Docker and Kubernetes deployment.
- Must have experience with working on workflow engines like Camunda, Activiti, JBPM or similar.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Strong experience leading Agile delivery at scale, with a focus on backlog execution, dependencies, continuous improvement, and outcomes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrate leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience with Search Engines like Apache Solr/OpenSearch/ElasticSearch.
- Experience with CI/CD, GitHub actions, Terraform or similar.
- Experience with tools like SonarQube, Veracode or similar.
- Experience with big data technologies, data analytics, and AI.
- Ability to work across geographically distributed teams.
- Experience operating within highly regulated financial services environments.
- Knowledge of financial industry trade surveillance, market abuse monitoring and/or global markets domain experience, including trading lifecycles.
- 8+ years of technology delivery and software engineering experience.
- 3+ years leading engineering teams in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
