Job summary

Sky in London is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the Network Software & Data Science team. You will design, build, and evolve software platforms, services, and data products enabling analytics, automation, forecasting, and AI-driven decision making across networks.

The role blends software engineering with cloud infrastructure and data science, requiring collaboration with engineers, data scientists, and product stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Strong commercial experience developing software using Python.
  • Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  • Understanding of testing, design patterns, maintainability, and code quality.
  • Experience deploying to cloud platforms (GCP preferred).
  • Hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • Designing RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • CI/CD practices using GitHub Actions, Concourse, Jenkins.
  • Git-based development workflows and data engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of agile, cross-functional teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable software platforms, APIs, and analytical apps.
  • Build cloud-native services for analytics, optimisation, forecasting, and AI workloads.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Software Developer to join the software and data science teamwithin Network Software & Data Science. You will help design, build, and evolve the software platforms, services, and data products that enable advanced analytics, automation, forecasting, optimisation, and AI-driven decision making across our networks.

What you'll do
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable software platforms, APIs, and analytical applications.
  • Build cloud-native services that support analytical, optimisation, forecasting, and AI workloads.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and network domain experts to translate business requirements into robust software solutions.
  • Develop backend services and APIs using Python and modern frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  • Design and implement containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Develop reusable platform components that improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to data product development, including ingestion, transformation, model deployment, and visualisation workflows.
  • Ensure software solutions meet security, reliability, scalability, and performance requirements.
  • Support operational excellence through observability, monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
  • Contribute to technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to fostering a strong engineering culture.
What you’ll bring Essential criteria:
  • Strong commercial experience developing software applications using Python.
  • Experience with modern Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles including testing, design patterns, maintainability, and code quality.
  • Experience building and deploying applications on cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP), although AWS or Azure experience is also valued.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD practices using tools such as GitHub Actions, Concourse, Jenkins, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with Git-based development workflows.
  • Understanding of data engineering and analytical workflows, including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within agile, cross-functional teams.
Desirable skills and experience:
  • Experience building platforms or applications that support Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI workloads.
  • Experience with MLOps tooling such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Vertex AI, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of workflow orchestration platforms such as Apache Airflow.
  • Experience with data processing technologies such as Pandas, Apache Beam, Spark, or similar frameworks.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with analytical databases such as BigQuery, PostgreSQL, or ClickHouse.
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience deploying and supporting large-scale distributed systems in Kubernetes environments.
  • Knowledge of graph analytics, network modelling, optimisation algorithms, or telecommunications networks.
