Job summary

Mayfleet Recruitment Limited is seeking a Senior Software Developer for a public sector digital programme on a contract basis. The role is remote with occasional travel to Newcastle, requiring active SC clearance or eligibility.

You will build and support event-driven Java services in an agile team across the full delivery lifecycle. Key skills include Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, MongoDB, Docker, TDD/BDD testing, and at least one CI/CD tool (Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub).

Qualifications

• Experience in Java with Spring Boot and event-driven services.
• Proficient with Kafka and MongoDB.
• Experience with Docker and containers.
• Strong unit testing, TDD and BDD with Cucumber.
• Familiarity with at least one CI/CD tool (Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub).
• Desirable: AWS services (SQS, S3, SNS, KMS); GitLab CI/CD; Gatling or k6; Kubernetes or ECS; Scrum/Kanban practices.

Job description

Mayfleet Recruitment is looking for a Senior Software Developer to join a public sector digital programme on a contract basis.

Rate: £400 per day Inside IR35

Duration: 12 Months

Location: Flexible, remote with occasional travel to Newcastle

Clearance: Active SC, or eligible and willing to undergo it

This is a hands-on engineering role building and supporting event-driven Java services, working in an agile team across the full delivery life cycle.

Essential experience:

• Java and Spring Boot
• Kafka and MongoDB
• A working understanding of Docker images and containers
• Unit testing and TDD
• BDD testing in Gherkin style, ideally with Cucumber
• At least one CI/CD tool, such as Jenkins, GitLab or GitHub

Desirable:

• AWS services such as SQS, S3, SNS and KMS
• GitLab CI/CD
• Load testing with Gatling or k6
• Kubernetes or ECS
• Working in Scrum or Kanban teams
