Job summary

AWD online is seeking a Senior Software Developer to lead hands-on engineering across UK applications and integrations in a hybrid role based in London area. The role combines coding with technical leadership and continuous improvement of platform standards.

You will contribute to planning, code reviews, testing and release readiness while coaching colleagues and helping raise development quality. Strong cloud, API and CI/CD experience is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in modern programming languages, frameworks and API development.
• Good understanding of AWS or Azure, microservices and integration patterns.
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, version control and automated testing practices.
• Skills in SQL, NoSQL or PostgreSQL database development and performance optimisation.
• Familiarity with unit testing and integration testing approaches.
• Ability to interpret architectural designs and apply technical standards to delivery.
• Knowledge of secure coding principles, performance and maintainability best practice.
• Strong engineering capability, attention to detail and a quality-focused approach.
• Effective collaboration with developers, analysts, architects and wider technology teams.
• Structured problem-solving, accountability and a continuous-improvement mindset.
• Ability to mentor and support junior and intermediate developers.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical input during discovery and clarify requirements with analysts and architects.
• Contribute to estimates, planning, risk identification and dependencies.
• Design, build and maintain secure, high-quality applications, integrations and APIs.
• Support code reviews, quality gates, problem-solving, coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with wider engineering teams on shared systems and platform standards.
• Support testing, documentation, deployment and post-release stabilisation.
• Drive automation, tooling, testing and code quality while following security and change-control processes.
• Provide clear delivery updates and escalate blockers early.
