Job summary

Project Freelance is seeking a Software Architect to drive architecture across a market-leading Warehouse Control System platform. You will shape design decisions, mentor teams and engage customers while delivering scalable, modern cloud-based solutions using C#/.NET and Azure.

You will lead architectural standards, integrate with WMS/ERP and guide cross-functional teams through FAT, SAT and deployments in fast-moving logistics environments.

Qualifications

• Strong experience as a Software/Solutions Architect or Senior Technical Lead.
• Extensive C#/.NET development and API design expertise.
• Proven ability to design enterprise-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures and cloud hosting.
• Excellent stakeholder management and customer-facing communication.

Software Architect - - C#/.NET, Azure & Distributed SystemsThe Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Software Architect to play a key role in the development and evolution of a market-leading Warehouse Control System platform.

This position will suit a hands‑on architect who enjoys working across the full software lifecycle, from solution design and architecture through to technical leadership, customer engagement and delivery. You'll help shape the future direction of a highly scalable warehouse automation platform used within complex distribution, logistics and fulfilment environments.

Working closely with software engineering teams, automation specialists and customers, you will drive architectural decisions, define best practices and ensure the platform remains modern, scalable and capable of supporting increasingly sophisticated automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and define application, integration, deployment and data architecture across the WCS platform.
• Design scalable, resilient and maintainable software solutions using modern Microsoft technologies.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to establish architectural standards, development frameworks and technical governance.
• Lead design reviews and provide technical guidance throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Support integration of Warehouse Control Systems with WMS, ERP, robotics, conveyors, automated storage systems and third‑party platforms.
• Work with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Provide architectural support during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning and customer deployments.
• Mentor developers and act as a technical leader across multiple project teams.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to architecture, tooling and engineering practices.
• Contribute to technical roadmaps and longer‑term platform strategy.

Required Experience

• Strong commercial experience as a Software Architect, Technical Architect, Solutions Architect or Senior Technical Lead.
• Extensive C# and .NET development experience.
• Strong understanding of modern software architecture principles and design patterns.
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise‑scale distributed systems.
• Proven experience with API design, systems integration and service‑oriented architectures.
• Experience working with microservices, event‑driven systems and messaging technologies.
• Strong SQL database design and optimisation experience.
• Experience working within cloud‑hosted environments such as Azure and/or AWS.
• Experience with containerisation technologies including Docker.
• Excellent stakeholder management and customer‑facing communication skills.
• Ability to engage with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Previous experience mentoring engineers and driving technical best practice.

Desirable Experience

• Warehouse Control Systems (WCS).
• Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
• Logistics, fulfilment, supply chain or warehouse automation environments.
• Blazor development experience.
• Kubernetes.
• Messaging platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Robotics, conveyor systems, PLC integration or material handling equipment.
• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
