£35 – £40 per hour (DOE)

Role Overview:

Tameside MBC is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner (Advanced Practitioner) to join its Duty & Assessment Team. This is a hybrid, frontline role working with children and families at the point of referral to deliver high-quality assessments, timely interventions, and safeguarding actions.

As a Senior Practitioner, you’ll carry a reduced caseload and provide leadership, mentoring, and reflective support to other social workers in the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver effective, high-quality statutory social work to children and families in line with legal frameworks, local policies, and best practice.

Lead on complex cases, including S47 enquiries, risk assessments, and court proceedings.

Facilitate group supervisions and practice development workshops for social work staff, supporting quality improvement and reflective learning.

Provide leadership within the team, using service user feedback, performance data, and team input to guide service improvements.

Support the strategic development of the service and contribute to the wider transformation of children’s services.

Promote a culture of safe, child-focused, and evidence-informed practice.

Qualified Social Worker (BA/MA Social Work, DipSW or equivalent)

Registered with Social Work England

Minimum 5 years’ post-qualified experience in children’s statutory social work

Strong knowledge of Duty & Assessment, safeguarding, and court processes

Proven experience in mentoring or leading social work staff

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)

Compliance Requirements:

Must provide 5 years of employment references

All gaps in employment must be explained

All relevant qualifications must be provided at submission

Completion of the GM Pledge Compliance Attributes Questions is mandatory for your application to be considered

Working Arrangement:

This role offers a hybrid working pattern, with a mix of office-based and remote working, depending on service needs.
