Job description

Are you an experienced social worker ready to take the next step in your career and help shape outstanding practice for children and families?

At Cheshire East Council, we're looking for a passionate and skilled Senior Social Worker to join our children's services team, supporting some of the borough's most vulnerable children, young people and families to achieve positive and lasting outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner who wants to combine direct work with children and families with mentoring, coaching and supporting colleagues to deliver high-quality social work. As a Senior Social Worker, you'll be a vital source of expertise within the team, helping to drive practice excellence and championing relationship-based approaches that put children at the centre of decision-making.

You’ll manage a complex caseload, undertake high-quality assessments and interventions, and work alongside partner agencies to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. You’ll also play an important role in sharing knowledge, modelling best practice and supporting less experienced colleagues to develop their skills and confidence.

At Cheshire East, we’re committed to creating the conditions for excellent social work. Our approach is built on restorative practice, strong relationships and a belief that families are the experts in their own lives. We invest in our workforce through regular reflective supervision, learning and development opportunities and supportive management that enables practitioners to do their best work.

The role will involve:

  • Managing a complex and varied caseload involving children, young people and families.
  • Undertaking assessments, planning and interventions that deliver meaningful outcomes.
  • Building effective relationships with children, families and partner organisations.
  • Providing practice leadership, mentoring and support for colleagues within the team.
  • Contributing to service improvement and promoting high standards of professional practice.
  • Championing restorative, strengths-based and relationship-focused ways of working.

We're looking for:

  • A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience of working with children and families in a statutory setting.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to manage complexity and provide professional leadership to others.
  • A commitment to relationship-based practice and achieving the best outcomes for children.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and professional development.

Why join Cheshire East?

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Regular reflective supervision and strong management support.
  • Access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities.
  • Opportunities to influence practice and support the development of others.
  • A commitment to staff wellbeing and career progression.
  • The chance to make a real difference to the lives of children and families every day.

If you're an experienced social worker looking for a role where your expertise will be valued and your leadership can make a genuine impact, we'd love to hear from you.
