Job summary

Hertfordshire County Council is seeking a Senior Social Worker to join the Targeted Review Programme in Stevenage or Hemel Hempstead. The role offers permanent positions with secondments and a focus on person-centred, outcome-focused planning.

You will support autistic adults or those with learning disabilities, collaborate with families and providers, and uphold safeguarding, disability confidence, and driving travel.

Qualifications

Job Title: Senior Social Workers - Targeted Review Programme
Salary:£44,253 progressing to £48,738 per annumLocation: Stevenage / Hemel Hempstead
Hours:37 hours per week
Contract:Permanent, 12-Months Secondment or Fixed Term, and 6-Months Secondment or Fixed Term(with potential to extend to another 6 months)

We are seeking experienced Senior Social Workers or Social Workers who are ready to develop into a senior role to join our Targeted Review Programme, which currently sits within the Review Team. There is a permanent and a 6-month secondment or fixed term positions within our Stevenage team, and another 12-month secondment or fixed term based in Hemel Hempstead.

About the role

The successful candidate will work alongside individuals to identify what matters most to them and support them to achieve their goals through person-centred, outcome-focused planning .

You will be an excellent communicator who is committed to helping people achieve positive outcomes. You will have experience of engaging effectively with individuals, families, carers and partner organisations, as well as working collaboratively and negotiating with providers to ensure the best possible support arrangements are in place.

We are looking for someone who is naturally curious and analytical, with the confidence to explore issues in depth rather than accepting information at face value. You will be comfortable providing constructive challenge where appropriate and will be committed to a strengths-based, risk-positive approach that promotes choice, independence and wellbeing .

About you

You will:

• Be a qualified and Social Work England registered Social Worker, with at least two years post qualified experience.
• Have considerable experience working with Autistic Adults or those with a Learning Disability and supporting outcome-focused practice .
• Be passionate about promoting independence and enabling people to achieve their goals.
• Have strong communication, relationship-building and negotiation skills.
• Be confident engaging with individuals, families, carers, providers and partner agencies.
• Demonstrate professional curiosity, judgement and critical thinking.
• Be able to analyse information, challenge appropriately and make evidence-based decisions.
• Embrace a strengths-based, person-centred and risk-positive approach to practice.
• Be motivated to contribute to service development and continuous improvement.
• Hold a driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Secondment

This role is open to secondments for eligible employees who work for HCC. If you wish to apply on a secondment basis, you must have your line manager’s approval before submitting your application. You will be asked to confirm this within your application form. If you are not eligible for a secondment (e.g., you are currently on a fixed‑term contract that would end before this positions ends) or you indicate that your manager cannot support a secondment, your application will be considered on a fixed‑term contract basis instead.
