Job description

Hello, we’re Starling. We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way. We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,500 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

We are looking for a Senior Social Media Manager to join our Brand Strategy team - a group dedicated to building our brand narrative, standing out in the industry, and creating lasting relevance across every channel.

In this role, you will expand our brand story across social platforms, with a primary focus on bringing it to life authentically and ubiquitously through creator content. This involves sourcing and collaborating with the best creator talent, delivering sharp creative briefs, and guiding partners to communicate our brand in the most impactful way.

The ideal candidate brings an exceptional grasp of platform best practices, algorithms, and measurement frameworks, alongside proven expertise in budget management and agency oversight. Fluid collaboration across cross‑functional teams - including media, creative, performance, affiliates, and product marketing - is essential. Additionally, you will oversee content approvals and compliance processes, developing a deep understanding of our product suite to effectively highlight how we help our customers be good with money.

This role will close at 12pm on 5th November.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic acumen and ability to stretch brand narrative:

  • Deep understanding of the brand point of view, the audience needs, behaviours and attitude to create relevance.
  • Translate creative briefs owned by brand strategy into simple, narratively‑led creator and social briefs bridging brand requirements and social best practices.
  • Spot opportunities for the brand to show up meaningfully and authentically on social channels.
  • Ability to stretch content across channels as part of a larger content engine.
Social expertise
  • Deep passion for social media and understanding of trends, algorithms and best practices.
  • Ability to define and implement measurement systems to help demonstrate the value of social work for brand building.
  • Ability to break down other brands social media strategies, learn from it and implement learnings in a way that’s relevant to our business and brand.
  • Ability to think always‑on and not just campaign first to make the brand ubiquitous across social channels - not just in owned but also in earned and shared.
Agency and budget management
  • Manage multi‑stakeholder projects across internal and external teams.
  • Own timelines and budgets to deliver accurately and on time - transparently.
  • Collaborate with other internal teams across media and performance to maximise usage of creative outputs.
Craft and creative output excellence
  • Ability to judge creative work, tone and style to align with our brand voice and guidelines.
  • Apply taste and understanding of the brand to creator selection and finding the sweet spot between their voice and ours.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years working in social, with a deep bias towards strategic thinking.
  • Deep craft experience in social executions with a finely tuned ability to develop strategic thinking and transform complex brand needs into simple ways in and single minded strategies.
  • Experience working with influencers and identifying latest platform trends, behaviours, rules, functionalities and optimisation strategies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to create and deliver presentations that articulate ideas in a compelling manner to build acceptance and support
  • Experience in developing actionable strategies and tactical content plans across all major platforms, and of working against content calendars.
  • Demonstrated experience of working successfully in fast‑paced environments with multifunctional groups, both internally and externally.
  • Understanding and experience with crisis management, risk policies, compliance and due diligence, ideally closely related to a regulated category.
Behaviours
