Job summary

Bupa seeks a Senior Data Platform Engineer to design and operate Snowflake-based data services across the enterprise. You’ll build secure, scalable infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and governance with high autonomy in a hybrid working model across Salford, Staines or London.

You’ll lead platform standards, optimize costs, implement RBAC and data masking, and collaborate with data, security and compliance teams while documenting runbooks and platform guides.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in platform or cloud engineering with a focus on Snowflake in enterprise environments.
• Deep Snowflake expertise including warehouse management, RBAC, data sharing and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Snowflake and cloud resources (Terraform).
• Proficiency in designing and automating CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Strong scripting skills (SQL, Python, Bash) for automation and tooling.
• Solid understanding of Snowflake security features (data masking, encryption, identity federation, network policies).
• Familiarity with observability practices, including query profiling, usage tracking and monitoring tool integration.
• Proven ability to optimise performance and manage costs in large-scale Snowflake environments.
• Excellent collaboration and communication across engineering, data and compliance teams.
• Proactive documentation of standards, runbooks and platform guides.

Responsibilities

• Automate Snowflake provisioning and lifecycle management using Terraform.
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
• Build monitoring and alerting frameworks using Snowflake-native tools.
• Lead cost optimisation to ensure efficient resource usage.
• Implement RBAC, data masking and identity integration for security.
• Develop automated testing and validation for platform changes.
• Establish governance and compliance controls (audit logging, access reviews).
• Design disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
• Create reusable templates and modules for consistent provisioning.
• Maintain high-quality documentation and onboarding materials.
