Job summary

A leading Tier 1 main contractor in North London is recruiting an experienced Senior Site Manager to join the delivery team on a major scheme. The role requires hands-on management of the structural steel frame phase and coordination of site teams, subcontractors and suppliers to deliver safely, on time and to budget.

You will lead the site team, manage sequencing and interfaces with design and commercial teams, and ensure high standards of health, safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager or Site Manager for a Tier 1 main contractor.
• Strong experience managing structural steel frame erection and associated works.
• Detailed understanding of construction sequencing and key interfaces with steel frames.
• Experience coordinating steelwork subcontractors and managing complex site logistics.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the day-to-day management and delivery of the project.
• Lead and coordinate site teams, engineers, subcontractors and specialist contractors.
• Manage the structural steel frame package from pre-start to erection and completion.
• Ensure steelwork activities align with programme, drawings and specifications.
• Coordinate with design, engineering and commercial teams to resolve technical issues.
• Monitor progress against programme and address potential delays.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
• Chair subcontractor coordination and progress meetings.
• Ensure works are properly planned, resourced and rescheduled as needed.
• Provide leadership and direction to Site Managers and the delivery team.

We are currently working with a leading Tier 1 main contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Site Manager to join the delivery team on a major scheme in North London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven Senior Site Manager with a strong track record delivering major construction projects and, in particular, hands-on experience managing the structural steel frame phase of a project.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the site team, coordinating subcontractors and ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required programme, quality and commercial standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the day-to-day management and delivery of the project.
• Lead and coordinate site teams, engineers, subcontractors and specialist contractors.
• Manage the structural steel frame package, from pre-start and logistics through to erection, coordination and completion.
• Ensure steelwork activities are delivered in accordance with the programme, drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Coordinate closely with the design, engineering and commercial teams to resolve technical and construction issues.
• Manage sequencing and interfaces between the steel frame and other trades/packages.
• Monitor progress against programme and proactively identify and address potential delays.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
• Chair and attend subcontractor coordination and progress meetings.
• Ensure works are properly planned, coordinated and resourced.
• Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure works are delivered to the required standards.
• Provide leadership and direction to Site Managers, Engineers and the wider delivery team.
• Maintain accurate site records and contribute to reporting on progress, programme and key risks.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Senior Site Manager with a strong background working for a main contractor on large-scale, complex construction projects.

You will have:

• Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager or Site Manager working for a Tier 1 main contractor.
• Strong experience managing structural steel frame erection and associated works.
• A detailed understanding of the construction sequence and key interfaces associated with a steel frame.
• Experience coordinating specialist steelwork subcontractors and managing complex site logistics.
• Strong programme and sequencing knowledge.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• The ability to manage multiple stakeholders and subcontractors effectively.
• A strong understanding of health, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
• Relevant construction qualifications, ideally including SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid.
