Job description

We are recruiting for a Senior Site Manager or Site Manager to join us here at Octavius.

We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.

You'll be working on…

A £6–10m roads and infrastructure improvement scheme in Cambridge. This project benefits from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), giving you the opportunity to shape the design, influence buildability, and drive efficient, right-first-time delivery from the outset.

You will take ownership of on-site delivery, leading a multi-disciplinary team to successfully transition from design into construction. Your focus will be on developing strong relationships with the client, designers, and supply chain, ensuring the project is delivered safely, to programme, and to the highest quality standards.

As a key leader on site, you'll create a collaborative, high-performing environment, embedding our values and ensuring a positive experience for both stakeholders and the travelling public.

You'll receive…

We offer a competitive rewards package, including a Company Car scheme, Private Healthcare, Pension, Life Assurance cover, 25 days Annual Leave (and a day off for your birthday). You'll also have access to an enhanced Paternity & Maternity package and the opportunity to develop yourself personally and professionally.

About You…

You are an experienced Site Manager or Senior Site Manager with a proven track record of delivering highways or civil engineering projects in a live environment.

You thrive in a collaborative setting and enjoy working closely with clients, designers, and supply chain partners, particularly in early engagement phases such as ECI, where your input can shape project success.

You bring strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams, manage multiple workstreams, and maintain high safety and quality standards on site. You are proactive, solutions-focused, and commercially aware, with a clear understanding of how to manage change and risk within a project environment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee all on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and method statements.
  • Lead site teams and subcontractors, ensuring works are coordinated efficiently and delivered to programme.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance in line with company and project requirements.
  • Ensure quality assurance processes are followed, including inspections, ITPs, and record keeping.
  • Monitor progress against programme and proactively identify and mitigate risks to delivery.
  • Manage site documentation, permits, and records to maintain a clear audit trail.
  • Support commercial processes by identifying compensation events, changes, and early warnings in line with NEC4.
Experience & Knowledge
  • Proven experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering or highways projects.
  • Experience delivering cycleway, public realm, or infrastructure schemes (desirable).
  • Good working knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations within construction.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multi-disciplinary works.
  • Comfortable working within a client-facing environment, ideally with local authority stakeholders.
Systems & Digital Capability
  • Familiarity with Procore and CEMAR would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Competent in site reporting, programme tracking, and document management systems.
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to drive site performance.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative approach, working effectively with internal teams, designers, and external stakeholders.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of change management processes.
Additional Requirements
  • SMSTS (or equivalent)
  • CSCS Card (Manager level)
  • First Aid at Work (preferred)
  • Full UK driving licence
