What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Balfour Beatty Head of Sustainability: Natural Environment and project leads, the Senior Site Ecologist will perform the following key activities:

  • Lead on delivery of project ecological requirements.
  • Develop and implement ecological management plans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, clients and design teams, and internal teams.
  • Ensure site compliance with ecological legislation and coach construction teams in applying controls and mitigations in pragmatic, cost-effective ways.
  • Ensure the company environmental management system is maintained in line with changing standards and legislation and liaise with senior team lead on changes required.
  • Lead investigations and report on ecological incidents.
Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation
  • Excellent understanding of ecological legislation for development
  • Good level of commercial awareness
  • Full driver's licence and flexibility to travel
  • Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
  • Good understanding of the utilities/construction/engineering operating environment
  • Literate in MS Office - Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecology or related subject
  • At least one protected species survey licence and/or experience in badger mitigation
  • Experience of working on large-scale infrastructure construction projects
  • Full CIEEM Membership
