The Post holder is responsible for the provision of high-quality patient care, at all care levels in the NICU, ensuring that it is evidence based and of a high standard.
Will also be responsible for ensuring adequate staffing levels, with appropriate skill mix, directing, managing, and supervising care and treatment of infants with complex needs, and overseeing the correct use of related life supporting intensive care equipment.
The Band 7 will be responsible for the appropriate deployment and teaching of staff and/or students, liaising with other agencies and ensuring that trust policies and procedures are adhered to.
The post holder is responsible for managing their time to work flexibly to fulfil the roles of clinical co-ordinator and unit manager. This may include periods of working supernumerary to undertake specific speciality roles and service functions applicable to a regional neonatal service.
To ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of resource effective nursing care and the setting of high standards of care on the neonatal unit.
To actively ensure a family centred/Family Integrated Care (FICare) partnership and collaborative approach to the service and support of the families/carers within the service are always maintained.
To maintain effective communication links with the multi-agency team and other Ward/departments, to include external communication with other network units, Neonatal transport teams and other key professionals associated with the perinatal networks.
To support the delivery of objectives let by the directorate business plan, the Neonatal North East Central London Network (NCEL ODN) and other agendas relevant to neonatal care.
To co-ordinate and monitor activity ensuring that nursing skill mix is utilised appropriately to maintain patient safety and articulate capacity management.
To review the overall workload of the unit as part of capacity management of the service, ensuring that the level and skill mix of nursing staff is appropriate.To act for the lead nurse of the service as required and when requested, including attendance atmeetings.
