A fantastic and unique opportunity has arisen to grow your career within the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Team as a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

We are looking for a highly motivated, hard-working, innovative and dynamic leader to lead our team. You do not need to be a current expert in the field to apply but must have the drive and aspiration to become one.

This is a 12 months fixed term secondment to cover maternity leave.

Planned interview date: 1-May-2025

Main duties of the job

You will work collaboratively with the Lead Nurse to ensure efficient day to day operational management of the CTCCU. The post holder will be accessible to patients, relatives and all staff working within the clinical area and provide excellent clinical leadership skills. They will take responsibility for the strategic leadership of a clinical team and will promote and demonstrate contemporary and proactive approaches to intensive care nursing practice.

Job responsibilities
  • To promote the Cardiothoracic (CTCCU) Nursing Philosophy in clinical practice.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge and skills in the management of the complex and changing health care needs of the critically ill patient, integrating theory and practice.
  • Ensures that the patients' interests are fully considered within the contexts of care; and actively participates in ethical decision making.
  • Actively investigates advanced theoretical knowledge and demonstrates research-based practice.
  • Act as a credible clinical role model.
  • Practices as a professional senior nurse with confidence, authority and expertise.
  • Takes responsibility for clinical practice developments.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation, and demonstrates competency in the use of information technology resources.
  • Works within CTCCU and OUH Trust codes of practice and professional guidelines.
  • Demonstrates effective communication regarding complex and sensitive information to patients, individuals in the multi-professional team, and significant others.
  • To participate and engage with research activities within the Cardiothoracic Critical Care service.
  • To engage in and perform audit and service improvement projects.
Person Specification
Criteria
  • *Education - Registered Nurse, Educated to Degree or Masters level in Nursing or MAGNET Accredited programme.
  • Short course in intensive Care practice, ENB 100 Course or Diploma in Critical Care Nursing or other relevant critical care qualification.
  • Evidence to support a programme of personal professional development.
  • Completion of a leadership and management development programme.
  • Hold a mentorship qualification/evidence of advanced mentorship skills.
  • *Occupational - Evidence of ICU operational management/Bed management.
  • Maintaining an excellent standard of patient care.
  • Effectively managing a team.
  • Advance critical care clinical practice.
