Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated critical care nurse to join our award-winning critical care team at the Royal London hospital, where we are proud to deliver high quality clinical care to the people of East London and further afield.

The successful applicant will join a welcoming, inclusive and highly skilled team built on strong and collaborative relations with our partners and the communities we serve in our busy and acute 44-bedded critical care unit.

The Royal London Hospital is home to the London Air Ambulance and a leading specialist centre in trauma and emergency care. In addition to trauma, the Royal London Hospital also provides specialist care in neurosciences, a hyper-acute stroke centre, and acute general medical, along with surgical and obstetric services.

We are looking for the best talent, who, as a visible leader, will manage a team of nurses and contribute to the smooth running of the service. In return, ACCU will commit to the provision of professional development opportunities to enable career progression and enhance job satisfaction.

Main duties of the job

The senior sister/charge nurse has responsibility for the management of clinical areas including assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of care and the setting of standards on a shift.

The post holder will where necessary deputise for the matron/s in his or her absence.

The post holder is responsible for the immediate management of critically ill patients in the Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU) and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are receiving optimum care.

To ensure continuity and high standards of care, including sharing ideas, information and feedback in order to empower patients and members of the multidisciplinary team.

To ensure accurate and complete records of activities and communications are produced, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.

To support the matron in developing the service and providing support and motivation to the team.

To lead by example as an expert practitioner.

The post holder has managerial and line management responsibilities for a team of staff within ACCU.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse or equivalent with live NMC registration.
  • Adult critical care course at academic level 6.
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification
  • First Degree/BSc
  • Working towards a masters degree
Experience
  • Post course experience in Critical Care.
  • Able to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge.
  • Evidence of mentoring and development of staff.
  • Experience in Neuro/Trauma Critical Care
