Location: Fletchers – Sheffield

Shift: 4on4off, rotating Days & Nights, 6am – 6pm/6pm – 6am

We have an opportunity for a Shift Senior Engineer to join our Engineering Team at our Fletchers site in Sheffield as part of the Finsbury Food Group.

Finsbury Food Group is a leading specialty bakery manufacturer. We constantly raise quality and efficiency standards and build long-term relationships within the food service channel. Finsbury offer a wide range of bakery products and are a leading supplier of bakery products across the UK.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer who is looking to take the next step in their career. As a development role, this position is ideal for someone aspiring to progress into Engineering supervision or management.

This is what you'll actually do!

You'll work closely with the Engineering Shift Manager to support the day-to-day priorities and workload of the Engineering department. Taking a lead within the shift engineering team, you'll help drive the maintenance plan and support the delivery of key engineering priorities.

A key part of the role will be deputising for the Engineering Shift Manager during holidays, absence and other periods away from the factory floor. You'll provide leadership and support to the engineering team, helping to prioritise work, maintain standards and ensure the smooth running of the shift.

You'll play an active role in maintaining high Health & Safety standards across the department. This will include supporting contractor control, authorising permits to work, risk assessments and method statements, and supervising contractors where required. You'll also become fully conversant with Engineering Health & Safety management systems, including Electricity at Work, Gas Safety, Legionella Control, COSHH, PUWER and Asbestos Management.

In the event of an incident or emergency, you'll take a lead role when deputising for the Engineering Shift Manager, ensuring the correct procedures are followed and appropriate action is taken.

You'll support the development of the engineering team through a coaching and mentoring approach, including carrying out Return to Work and absence reviews when required. You'll also support the delivery of plant improvement projects and identified continuous improvement actions within the shift team's designated areas of responsibility.

You'll contribute to the continuous improvement of business performance by achieving personal and site objectives, supporting the Operating Brilliance Process and working collaboratively across functions where required.

You'll also work closely with Engineering Stores to ensure the availability of essential services and spare parts is maintained. You'll develop a strong understanding of key suppliers and service providers to help maximise business continuity following faults and breakdowns.

Ideally this is you!

  • An experienced Engineer with a strong Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background and knowledge of plant maintenance and CMMS systems.
  • An experienced people manager with a coaching and mentoring approach to developing Engineering team members.
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing processes, facilities management and statutory Engineering legislation.
  • Confident managing contractors, permits to work, risk assessments and method statements.
  • A strong communicator and confident decision maker, able to influence and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, well organised and able to prioritise workloads and work on your own initiative.
  • Experienced in maintenance and inspection processes, including the completion of accurate documentation.
  • Highly resilient, flexible and proactive, with a strong focus on Health & Safety, continuous improvement and operational performance.

What's in it for you?

  • Enhanced Maternity & Paternity Leave to allow quality time with your new arrival!
  • Enhanced Pension Scheme for our employees
  • Free Employee Assistance Programme (open to colleagues and their families)
  • Retail discounts accessible via our Benefits Hub platform!
  • Refer a Friend Scheme (up to £300 per referral – T&C's dependent)
  • Employee Recognition Awards Extensive Learning & Development opportunities (including opportunities for sponsored professional memberships and our own in-house development course!)
  • An opportunity to be part of a fantastic, growing organisation. Head over to our LinkedIn page to find out more!
