Job summary

Rochdale Borough Council is seeking an exceptional Service Manager to lead the Family Support and Protection service (soon to be the Family Help Service) within Children’s Social Care. The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking and a clear focus on outcomes for children and families.

The post involves managing managers, realising improvements, and partnering with colleagues across the Council to place children and families at the heart of service development.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible leadership to managers and teams across Family Support and Protection.
• Drive high-quality, consistent social work practice and outcomes.
• Create a culture of motivation, support and constructive challenge.
• Oversee service performance and ensure statutory responsibilities and guidance are met.
• Develop the workforce and deploy resources effectively.
• Contribute to service planning and strategic direction of Children’s Social Care.
• Collaborate with partners and stakeholders across the Council.
• Ensure the voices of children, young people, parents and carers influence service development.
• Manage delegated budgets and resources, reporting on performance.
• Deputise for the Head of Service when required.
