Descrizione del lavoro

Job Description Summary

Our Senior Systems Lead Engineer (Service Engineering) plays a pivotal leadership role within the Service Engineering organisation. This individual is responsible for managing and developing a team of Lead Engineers, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality service engineering solutions across our portfolio of projects. They set the technical direction for the service engineering function, champion operational excellence, and act as the primary interface between engineering leadership and the wider business. We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in power conversion and drive systems, as well as those with specialist expertise in Marine Dynamic Positioning (DP) and Automation systems.

Job Description

The Opportunity Service engineering in power conversion and marine electrification is not a support function — it is where the product meets reality. Vessels need to hold position in 4-metre swells. Industrial drives need to come back online after a fault. DP (Dynamic Positioning) systems need to maintain redundancy class when a power management system trips. When those challenges land, the Service Engineering team is the technical authority that resolves them. As Senior Service Engineering Manager at GE Vernova's Rugby or Swansea sites, you will lead a team of Lead Engineers within the Service Engineering organisation, setting technical standards, driving accountability, and ensuring delivery across a complex portfolio of upgrade, and retrofit projects spanning industrial, energy, and marine sectors globally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Lead Engineer population — provide day-to-day direction, performance management, mentoring, and professional development for a team of Lead Engineers; support resource planning and workforce development, including identifying skills gaps and working with HR and senior leadership to address them.
  • Set technical vision and standards — define and enforce technical standards for the Service Engineering function, ensuring all engineers operate in accordance with company quality frameworks, regulatory requirements, and applicable marine classification society rules and DP system standards including IMO (International Maritime Organization) MSC/Circ.645 and IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) guidelines.
  • Own service project delivery — oversee the full service lifecycle across commissioning, field service, upgrades, and retrofits; ensure solutions meet customer, contract, quality, and regulatory requirements across industrial and marine sectors; manage engineering budgets, risk management processes, design reviews, and quality and change control systems in line with company guidelines.
  • Act as senior customer-facing technical authority — translate complex customer requirements from energy, industrial, and marine sectors into technically sound, commercially viable service solutions; collaborate with Project Managers, commissioning teams, vessel operators, and third-party partners; deputise for senior leadership as required.
  • Provide specialist technical guidance — advise on marine vessel PMS (Power Management Systems), DP control systems, and shipboard automation architectures as applicable; bring deep expertise in power engineering, electrical drive systems, LV (Low Voltage) and MV (Medium Voltage) variable speed drives, and grid-connected systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement — champion cost-reduction initiatives and efficiency programmes in collaboration with teams across other business units; drive accountability and measurable value delivery across the Lead Engineer population.
About You

You are an experienced engineering leader with a track record of managing and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams in service, field, or project delivery environments — comfortable operating as both a technical authority and a people-first manager.

Required
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Marine Engineering, Control Systems, or a closely related discipline — a formal qualification is advantageous, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
  • Significant experience in an engineering people management or senior leadership role, with a demonstrated track record of developing teams of engineers.
  • Substantial experience in service engineering or field engineering leadership within power conversion, energy, maritime, or industrial sectors.
  • Solid expertise in power engineering, electrical drive systems, and grid-connected systems — with working knowledge of drives, motors, transformers, switchboards, and related equipment across LV and MV applications.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands to strict timescales across a complex service portfolio.
  • Clear analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills — with the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation and translate customer needs into effective engineering solutions.
Preferred
  • Experience with marine DP systems — including DP control system architecture, redundancy classification (DP Class 1, 2 and 3), thruster control, and position reference systems.
  • Familiarity with marine PMS and IAS (Integrated Automation Systems), and experience working to marine classification society requirements (e.g. DNV, Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas) in a service or engineering capacity.
  • Relevant marine industry certifications such as IMCA DP-related training or NI (Nautical Institute) DP Operator/Technician certification.
  • Experience commissioning, fault-finding, and supporting marine DP and automation systems across a range of vessel types including OSVs (Offshore Support Vessels), AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessels, drillships, and cable layers.
