Job summary

Confidential North East digital business is seeking an experienced SEO leader to own the Organic Search function. This role demands technical depth and strategic direction, not merely managing a team.

You will set the SEO strategy for large, complex client accounts, drive delivery standards and mentor the team. Collaborate with content, PR and paid media to deliver measurable commercial impact. Hybrid work with Gateshead office three days a week.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience across technical SEO, content strategy and authority building.
• Experience developing SEO strategies for larger, complex or enterprise-level websites.
• Understanding of architecture, crawling, indexing, migrations and international SEO.
• Knowledge of how content, topical authority and digital PR drive organic growth.
• Experience using SEO analytics platforms to interrogate data and guide decisions.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor or develop an SEO team.
• Ability to balance technical detail with strategic/business impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of SEO specialists and raise delivery standards.
• Set SEO strategy for large, complex client accounts including IA, content, and digital PR.
• Engage in technical SEO work when needed and avoid mere delivery handoffs.
• Create frameworks and processes to standardise SEO delivery.
• Collaborate with Client Services and senior stakeholders to ensure commercial relevance.
• Work with content, paid media and other teams to strengthen the strategy.
• Support new business and pitches with differentiated SEO propositions.
• Stay ahead of changes in AI, SERPs, search behaviour and technical evolution.
• Shape the future direction of the Organic Search offering.
