Job summary

Teaching Personnel is assisting a well-established SEND school in Wigston to recruit a Senior Teaching Assistant on a temporary-to-permanent basis. The role focuses on supporting pupils with a range of SEND needs, mentoring fellow Teaching Assistants and working with families and professionals to deliver tailored education and wellbeing support.

You will contribute to pupil progress reviews, adapt learning to individual EHCP plans, and ensure high standards of safeguarding and inclusive practice

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Maths and English qualifications at Level 2 or above.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor or support colleagues.
  • Positive, patient and flexible approach.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting teaching, learning and classroom activities.
  • Assisting with planning, delivering and assessing individual pupil programmes.
  • Leading and supporting other Teaching Assistants within the classroom.
  • Promoting pupil independence, confidence and wellbeing.
  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEND needs, including communication, learning and physical needs.
  • Assisting with personal care and health care routines where required.
  • Supporting behaviour management strategies and positive pupil engagement.
  • Working closely with families, external agencies and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Contributing to pupil progress reviews and reporting processes.

Job description

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking to take the next step in your career within a specialist SEND setting?

We are delighted to be working in partnership with a well-established SEND school in Wigston that is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Teaching Assistant to join their team on a temporary-to-permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced education professional who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), while providing guidance and support to other Teaching Assistants within the classroom environment.

The Role

As a Senior Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting teachers to deliver high-quality learning opportunities and ensuring pupils receive the individual support they need to thrive. You will work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, parents, carers and other professionals to support pupils' educational, social, emotional and physical development.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Maths and English qualifications at Level 2 or above
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • The ability to work with students with tailored EHCP plans
  • Experience mentoring or supporting colleagues is desirable
  • A positive, patient and flexible approach

You will be passionate about helping young people achieve their full potential and be comfortable supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
