CPR seeks a Senior Security Systems Consultant to own physical security systems (CCTV, access control, intruder detection, PSIM) across HS2. You will develop technical requirements, manage interface control documents and guide interfaces with railway stakeholders.

Job description

Senior Security Systems Consultant, Physical Security, High Speed Rail

Our client is looking for a Senior Security Systems Consultant to take technical ownership of physical security systems across one of the largest infrastructure programmes in Europe. The work covers the full scope of physical security: video surveillance, access control, intruder detection and physical security information management, specified and delivered across the HS2 route. Your day-to-day purpose is to develop the technical requirements and specifications that govern how these systems are designed and built, manage the interfaces between security systems and the rest of the railway, and make sure that what gets delivered actually meets the programme's operational and technical requirements.

Interface management sits at the heart of this role. Physical security systems on a programme of this scale touch a large number of other contracts and disciplines, and the work of defining, controlling and evidencing those interfaces is where much of the technical effort lies. You will develop and maintain interface control documents, manage the risks that come with those interfaces, and work across project teams and supply chain organisations to make sure that interfaces are understood, agreed and kept current as the programme evolves. Where risks emerge, you will apply appropriate controls and make sure they are tracked and resolved. This is not a cyber or IT security role. The work is grounded in physical and electronic security systems: CCTV, access control, intruder detection and PSIM, at infrastructure scale.

You will develop technical specifications and standards for physical security systems, provide assurance that contractor design and installation meets those requirements, and work through issues where it does not. You will engage with third-party organisations including British Transport Police and Network Rail, managing the technical interfaces between HS2 security systems and systems outside the programme boundary. You will also provide technical advice to colleagues and external stakeholders, contributing to the resolution of engineering and commercial issues as they arise.

The role is based in London.

What you need to bring

Your background is in physical and electronic security systems: CCTV, access control, intruder detection and PSIM, gained within a transport infrastructure programme or a comparable environment. You do not need a railway background, but you do need experience of working on large, complex, multi-disciplinary programmes where security systems interface with other engineering disciplines and where the management of those interfaces has been part of your role.

You will have hands-on experience of developing technical requirements and specifications, managing interface control documents, and applying risk management controls in a project environment. You will understand what it takes to specify a system that works not just on its own terms but as part of a wider integrated railway. The ability to communicate clearly with non-specialist colleagues, contractors and external stakeholders is as important as the technical depth behind it.

A working knowledge of CDM regulations or an equivalent safety management process within a relevant industry is expected.

Useful to have

Experience of working with third-party system owners such as British Transport Police or Network Rail, or equivalent organisations in other sectors. Familiarity with national and international technical standards that apply to physical security systems design, installation and operation. Experience of value engineering or whole-life cost considerations on major infrastructure programmes. A background that spans more than one phase of a programme lifecycle, from requirements development through to design assurance and construction oversight.
