Job summary

Smartedge Solutions is seeking a Senior Security Operations Engineer (SOC Engineer L3) to join our hybrid, permanent team in Warrington or Leamington Spa. You will design and integrate security logs, build detection rules, and develop automated playbooks to improve threat detection and response across cloud, on-premises, and tooling ecosystems.

The role emphasizes AI-driven detection, automation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Experience designing detection logic to detect TTPs and IoCs.
• Ability to fine-tune detections and reduce false positives.
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Effective written and spoken English communication for technical and non-native stakeholders.
• Leadership and mentoring to drive high-quality delivery.
• Experience with AI agents and agentic workflows in security tools.
• Proficiency in building detection rules and automation playbooks.
• Experience with SOAR and general security automation.
• Knowledge of AI for Security Operations and integration of AI agents.
• API integration knowledge and logic app development.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, onboard, and integrate security logs from cloud, infrastructure, apps, and security tools.
• Design and implement log ingestion pipelines, parsing, normalization, enrichment, and data quality controls.
• Develop, tune, and optimize detection rules, correlations, and alert content to improve fidelity.
• Design and build automated playbooks and orchestration for security operations.
• Develop integrations between SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, IAM, vulnerability management, and cloud tools.
• Optimize security tooling infrastructure for availability, scalability, and resilience.
• Develop dashboards and metrics for SOC performance and platform health.
• Support incident response, threat hunting, and investigations through detection engineering and automation.
• Lead AI initiatives to improve alert triage, investigations, and response decisions.
• Identify AI-driven use cases to reduce manual SOC activities and accelerate investigations.
• Collaborate with security, infra, cloud, and application teams to deliver scalable monitoring.
