Job Type: Permanent

Location: Central London (Bloomsbury)

Salary: £41k with excellent benefits including 25 days holiday, private healthcare, leisure travel insurance, gym subsidy, interest-free season ticket loan and cycle-to-work scheme

Hours: 35 hours per week; hybrid working (2-3 days in the office per week)

This opportunity is part of the Sector Associations team, which sits in the broader Regulation and Science team at the Food and Drink Federation, the representative body of the UK’s largest manufacturing sector.

The role works with several food sector trade associations, keeping them up to date across a broad range of policy and regulatory requirements. You will be working closely with our policy experts across a range of food safety topics - for example Allergens, Microbiology, Residues and Contaminants - as well as keeping an overview of a range of broader policies like the National Food Strategy. You will work with technical experts in food manufacturing companies and need to confidently liaise with government officials and a wider range of stakeholders both in the UK and EU.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and analysis of scientific, regulatory and policy developments in defined areas across GB, EU and Codex Alimentarius, with a food safety focus
  • Providing written summaries of regulatory changes as well as verbal updates to small groups of companies
  • Extensive liaison including with FDF regulatory and policy colleagues, government officials, and European Associations
  • Providing Secretariat support for several committees, both technical and Board level, including preparing agendas, papers, and minutes
  • Working alongside the Sector Regulatory Manager and taking responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the Associations
  • Creating website content, including policy briefings and microblogs
  • Deputising for the Sector Regulatory Manager in their absence

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in food science or another relevant discipline
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a demonstrable ability to produce accurate written summaries of scientific and regulatory information
  • Experience in food industry, regulatory authority, trade association or similar organisation is desirable
  • Experience of food safety and/or regulatory policy development is desirable
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work across a wide range of issues, managing multiple deadlines
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships within companies and with key external stakeholders at a range of seniorities
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills, including previous experience of providing secretariat to committee meetings
  • Responsible self-starter but also a highly motivated team player
  • The role will include attending external meetings and some travel to European meetings
