Job Description

This is a role rooted in belief — belief that children and young people affected by the Grenfell Tower tragedy should not be limited by what they’ve experienced, but supported in discovering who they are and who they might become. As Senior Secondary Specialist in the Grenfell Education Hub, you’ll be there to protect space for aspiration, rebuild trust in education, and walk with young people as they navigate their path forward.

Working Style

You’ll be based in the Borough for five days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. You’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll work directly with young people in secondary schools and colleges — many of whom carry with them the weight of lived trauma, but also the drive to move forward. You’ll advocate for students, support them through transitions, and help address challenges that stand in the way of learning. Whether it’s a drop in attendance, a sense of disconnection, or a loss of direction, you’ll be there to listen and act — always with a focus on helping each young person feel safe, supported and able to pursue what matters to them.

You’ll lead on complex cases and champion trauma-informed, student-centred approaches across the Hub’s secondary work. Your role will involve meaningful collaboration with families, school staff, and services like the Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service — ensuring that support is not only joined up, but also deeply respectful of each young person’s experience, culture and voice.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll guide and support colleagues, including the Primary Specialist and Careers Coordinator. You’ll bring thoughtfulness and clarity to your leadership, helping the team deliver high-quality, equitable support. Alongside the Deputy Head, you’ll help shape the strategic direction of the Hub and ensure its vision is felt in classrooms, homes and community spaces across the borough.

You’ll also create and lead sessions for students, families and teachers — from after-school academic support to group workshops and staff training — each one focused on restoring confidence, building connection, and nurturing the sense that brighter futures are possible, and worth reaching for.

What You’ll Bring

You’ll be a qualified teacher with a strong understanding of secondary education and experience supporting young people through complexity and change. Your strength lies not just in your expertise, but in your ability to meet students where they are — to hold the weight of what they’ve experienced while also helping them to look forward.

You’ll bring confidence in safeguarding, SEND and education policy, paired with a calm, compassionate approach to leadership and teaching. You’ll be reflective and relational in your work, equally comfortable guiding a colleague, working systemically, or sitting beside a student who’s feeling lost.

Above all, you’ll believe in young people’s right to imagine and pursue lives beyond trauma — to be seen not just as survivors, but as learners, creators, and future-shapers. You’ll understand the role education can play in restoring that sense of possibility — and you’ll be committed to helping make that happen, one relationship at a time.

Why join us

At RBKC, we’re all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a long-term, community-led response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy. At the Grenfell Education Hub, we’re working not only to support recovery, but to protect futures — to ensure that no child is held back by history, and every young person has the tools, care and encouragement to step forward with hope.

You’ll join a team built on trust, respect and purpose. A place where care is as important as competence — and where your work will be part of a collective effort to build something lasting. We know that not everyone will match every requirement listed, but if your values align with ours and you are driven by a commitment to children’s dignity, voice and aspiration, we want to hear from you.

Because here, we’re not just helping young people recover. We’re helping them rebuild — and believe in a future they can define for themselves.
