Band 6 Senior Scrub Practitioner - Evelina London Theatres

Two vacancies have arisen for a highly skilled and experienced scrub nurses to join Evelina Theatres as a Band 6 Senior Scrub Practitioners.

The Evelina theatre complex consists of 5 main theatres, a procedure room, and Cardiac Cath lab and satellite areas such as XMR-Cath, MRI, PET scans. The main specialities in Evelina Theatres include Spinal, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Urology, General Surgery, Renal, ENT, Otology, Cleft, Plastics and Gastroenterology.

Evelina theatres collaborates with our newly opened Children's Day Surgery Unit (CDSU).Additionally, we also have been EPIC live since October 2023 and have been pro-actively utilising the new Hospital Information System for seamless, faster and excellent patient care.

The successful candidate will have extensive and relevant scrub experience, be proactive, self-motivated, have very strong interpersonal skills, a vision for service improvement, and demonstrable leadership and management skills. This role is expected to actively support, coordinate and assist in the management and delivery of high quality care to patients.

They should have paediatric qualification or be willing to pursue the paediatric education pathway for adult nurses. It is highly desirable for them to have experience in leadership in addition to significant scrub experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Acts as the team leader in efficiently running theatre lists and managing staff members to ensure the smooth running of theatre lists in collaboration with the Theatre Coordinator.
  • Participate in the theatre coordination role.
  • Participate in the surgical scheduling and planningmeetings.
  • Support and mentor junior staff and students.
  • Facilitate Performance Development Reviews (PDR) for Band 5 staff and below in conjunction with the line manager.
  • Support consumable and equipment management within each specialty group and liaise with the Equipment Manager accordingly.
  • Participate in different link nurse opportunities ( pain, infection control, EDI, education, wellness, etc.).
  • Actively participate in areas of Clinical Governance, Audit, and Research projects.
  • Actively participate and manage in quality and service improvement projects for the delivery of quality service.
  • Be willing to learn and/or able to deputise for Charge Nurse.

Person specification

Qualifications/Education

  • BSc Nursing or Equivalent
  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
  • SSSA-P
  • Leadership Training
  • Post registration qualification in (appropriate area of speciality)

Experience

  • Previous post registration experience within the relevant specialty
  • Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting
  • Experience of coordinating a team and the wider MDT in theatres
  • Experience of project management and service improvement initiatives/ audit

Skills

  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues. Knowledge of evidence based practice.
  • Good communication skills, situational awareness and ability to deal with sensitive information
  • Demonstrates ability to influence and negotiate with others. Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical skills, troubleshooting and handling of specialist equipment

Professional/ Statutory Registration

  • RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
