Job description

What if…you could join an organization that creates, resources, and builds life sciences companies that invent breakthrough technologies in order to transform health care and sustainability?

Metaphore Biotechnologies is harnessing the power of mimicry to make previously intractable drug targets accessible and unlock breakthroughs that outperform today's drugs for maximum patient impact. The company's MIMiC platform is a computationally driven bioplatform designing new therapeutics where function, specificity, and selectivity are programmable.

Metaphore Biotechnologies is a product of Flagship Pioneering's venture creation engine, which has also given rise to companies such as Moderna Therapeutics (NASDAQ: MRNA), Editas Medicine (NASDAQ: EDIT), Omega Therapeutics (NASDAQ: OMGA), Seres Therapeutics (NASDAQ: MCRB), and Indigo Agriculture. Since its launch in 2000, Flagship has applied its unique hypothesis-driven innovation process to originate and foster more than 100 scientific ventures. In 2021, Flagship Pioneering was ranked 12th globally on Fortune’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies.

Position Summary:

Metaphore Biotechnologies is seeking an exceptional scientist to join our Computational Biology team. In this role, you will use and develop robust computational analyses to support advancing projects in our therapeutic discovery and development engine. The ideal candidate will bring experience in next-generation sequencing and high-throughput screening assay analysis in the context of biologics drug development projects, as well as knowledge of computational pipeline development and reproducible research best practices. Excellent communication and people management skills are essential to enable you to present results to a variety of stakeholders and effectively collaborate with scientists and leaders with a broad array of backgrounds in a matrix organization. This individual will also have the opportunity to provide insights and contribute to shaping the future direction of our data-driven platform to unlock the potential of molecular mimicry for therapeutics development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct statistically sound analyses of NGS, high-content, and HTS assay data.
  • Develop and validate analytical workflows and pipelines.
  • Actively participate in project matrix teams, present results and interpretations to achieve project aims through data-driven decision making.
  • Coordinate efforts between experimental and computational teams to acquire comprehensive datasets that satisfy both data-driven decision making and AI/ML algorithm development.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the company.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with 5+ years of experience in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience in cross-functional stakeholder communications in the context of drug development projects. Prior experience with antibody therapeutics development is a plus.
  • Experience with collaborative, hypothesis-driven, biological research and contributing to experimental design plans. Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in NGS and HTS data analysis.
  • Experience developing analysis frameworks for novel experimental assays and/or measurement techniques.
  • Experience with the critical assessment of data quality and defining data quality standards.
  • Proficiency in R and Python.
  • Familiarity with git, docker, cloud computing, and scalable scientific workflow systems such as Nextflow.
  • Experience with reproducible research best practices.
