Job Summary

Orchard Therapeutics is a global gene therapy leader dedicated to transforming the lives of people affected by rare diseases through innovative, curative cell and gene therapies. Orchard has its global headquarters in London and U.S. headquarters in Boston, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyowa Kirin, a Japan-based Global Specialty Pharmaceutical Company.

As a key member of the Global Analytical Development Team, this role will support analytical development for early phase programs and execute method development at Orchard. Responsibilities include experiment design, setting acceptance criteria, experiment execution, and data analysis of various analytical methods. This is an exciting opportunity to join an international company focused on transforming lives through innovative gene therapies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the analytical development plan of early-stage programs as a key member of a CMC team.
  2. Serve as the single point of contact for projects with external parties such as CDMOs, CROs, or vendors.
  3. Lead the development and qualification of analytical methods for cell and gene therapy programs.
  4. Perform and develop analytical methods including protein and cell-based tools, LVV analytics, immunoassays, and ddPCR.
  5. Assess novel equipment and methodologies.
  6. Write SOPs to support activities, including tech transfer to internal departments or external partners.
  7. Maintain accurate lab records and prepare final reports to support internal analytical activities.
  8. Perform other activities as assigned.
Requirements
Experience & Knowledge
  • Minimum 2 years managing analytical development projects.
  • Understanding of process development needs for LVV and gene-modified cell products.
  • Knowledge of FDA, EMA, GMP, WHO, and ICH regulatory standards is advantageous.
  • Experience in assay development with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to drive analytical method development with internal and external resources.
  • Proficiency in techniques such as flow cytometry, enzymatic activity assessment, immunoassays, and protein detection. Knowledge of single-cell sequencing, PCR, and primary cell culture is required.
  • Experience with autologous cell therapy and lentiviral vector assessment is desirable.
  • Understanding of tech transfer processes for analytical methods to GMP labs is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Education
  • BSc/MSc in a biotech-related discipline.
  • PhD in a biotech discipline with 5+ years postdoctoral experience is preferred.
