Job summary

Met Office seeks a Senior Scientific Software Engineer to join the International Sub-Seasonal and Seasonal Outreach team. You will contribute to weather, seasonal and climate projects, collaborating with global partners and advancing climate data science.

Qualifications

• Designing and delivering complex software in Python.
• Apply software quality principles and keep up with development practices.
• Strong communication with diverse audiences and guiding others.
• Prioritise and manage work to meet deadlines and requirements.
• Background or interest in weather/climate science and its decision support.
• Willingness to travel overseas up to twice a year for training.

Responsibilities

• Join the International Sub-Seasonal and Seasonal Outreach team to deliver international weather, seasonal and climate projects.
• Collaborate with scientists and SSEs to maintain and develop climate modelling systems and data visualisation code.
• Support colleagues in improving coding and software QA skills.
• Prepare and deliver training on software usage and development to partners, including travel.
