Job summary

The Astley Cooper School in Hemel Hempstead is seeking a Science Technician to support practical science lessons and help maintain a safe, well-organised laboratory environment.

You will prepare and set up equipment for practical lessons, assist teachers, manage materials, and ensure health and safety best practices are followed. A genuine interest in science and reliable, proactive approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Have a genuine interest in science and practical science education.
• Be organised, reliable and able to manage and prioritise a varied workload.
• Prepare and set up equipment and materials for practical lessons, ensuring activities are ready to a high standard.
• Have a strong understanding of health and safety and the safe use, storage and handling of chemicals, equipment and other scientific materials.
• Be confident working independently while also contributing positively to a supportive department.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure laboratories, preparation areas and equipment are well organised and maintained.
• Be willing to contribute positively to the wider life and development of the Science Department.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up equipment and materials for practical lessons, ensuring activities are ready to a high standard.
• Support teaching staff to deliver high-quality science lessons.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure laboratories, preparation areas and equipment are well organised and maintained.
• Ensure health and safety compliance in the science labs.
• Assist with ordering and stock control of reagents and equipment.
• Contribute to the wider life and development of the Science Department.
