Job summary

The Supply Register is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to work 2 days per week across Birmingham schools. The role reports to the CFO and focuses on supporting the financial operations of the Trust, ensuring robust controls, accurate reporting and compliance with education sector requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in school/academy/MAT finance environments.
• Understanding of educational financial processes, reporting and compliance.
• Ability to support multiple schools with flexible days.

Responsibilities

• Support the CFO with the effective running of Trust finances.
• Oversee financial processes across Trust schools.
• Prepare financial reports for the CFO, Executive Team, Headteachers and Trust Board.
• Assist with annual school budget setting, budget monitoring and forecasting.
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts.
• Monitor income and expenditure and ensure accurate month-end reporting.
• Support salary forecasting and payroll-related processes.
• Complete and review financial reconciliations.
• Support internal and external audits.
• Assist with annual statutory accounts and audit evidence.
• Support VAT, pension and other statutory returns.
• Develop and improve financial systems and processes across schools.
• Support Finance Assistants and school-based Business/Office Managers.
• Ensure compliance with Trust financial procedures and education-sector requirements.
• Work with Local Authorities and external finance consultants.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial efficiency and value for money.
