ATTENTION ALL: Our client, an independent global healthcare company, is currently looking to appoint a dedicated, experienced Senior Safety Health & Environment Specialist to join their team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

As Senior Safety Health & Environment Specialist, you will be responsible for providing cross-functional advice and support to our Engineering, Quality Laboratories, Manufacturing, and Technical Operations.

In this position, you will work to deliver the compliance of the site management system with company standards and UK legislation. This will also include supporting the delivery of key Capital Projects.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Act as a deputy to the site SHE Lead in their absence.
2. Provide SHE leadership and support to the various operational functions across the site to ensure safe and compliant operation.
3. Support and maintain key site hazard identification and risk management programs, e.g., risk assessment, manual handling, COSHH, Permit to Work, Loss prevention, HAZOP, as well as site registers.
4. Support the site SHE management and organization by acting as a subject matter expert on allocated SHE programs and providing coaching to site personnel.
5. Project manage site SHE projects and initiatives.
6. Provide expert guidance and surveillance to engineering or site capital projects regarding SHE compliance, standards, and management of change.
7. Support the emergency management organization and arrangements for the site.
8. Conduct SHE training/coaching activities as required.
9. Investigate SHE incidents to establish root cause and appropriate corrective/preventative action.
10. Compile and perform trend analysis of incident information.
11. Support delivery of the site SHE inspection, monitoring, and audit programs.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

1. Degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
2. EHS related certification such as NEBOSH Diploma – Occupational Health and Safety Management.
3. Knowledge of ISO standards e.g., ISO14001 and ISO45001 is preferred but not essential.
4. Membership in Professional Institute e.g., IOSH, IEMA, IRM (Tech, Grad, or Full Member) is preferred but not essential.
5. Relevant technical and operational knowledge.
6. Good communication skills, excellent team leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence.
