Job description

PURPOSE

Established in December 2023, the Cricket Regulator was set up to be the ring-fenced executive team responsible for ensuring effective education programmes are in place; to operate best practice monitoring, intelligence, and compliance programmes; to investigate alleged breaches, and to prosecute cases where considered appropriate.

The Cricket Regulator focuses on Anti-Corruption, Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Doping, Safeguarding, General Misconduct, and Agency activity in the professional game, as well as other designated levels of organised cricket. Safeguarding and Anti-Discrimination also involves working with other organisations across the recreational game. The Cricket Regulator also ensures cricket in England and Wales meets the regulatory requirements of the International Cricket Council, and also playing a lead role in combatting global threats.

The roles and responsibilities of the Cricket Regulator were previously carried out by an ECB team, which has largely transitioned across to the new structure. An objective in the creation of the Cricket Regulator was to create greater assurance around the separation between regulatory functions and the remainder of the ECB activities.

To provide support and guidance to cricket organisations across England and Wales on safeguarding and assist them with achieving the highest possible standards within the County Partnership Agreement.

Assist the Head of Education & Support to drive proactive education and meet standards across the game in safeguarding, anti-discrimination, discipline and integrity.

Manage a team of County Safeguarding Advisors and work with county organisations to achieve compliance with the County Partnership Agreement (CPA) and drive culture change.

THE ECB

The England and Wales Cricket Board is the national governing body for cricket in England and Wales, supporting the game at every level, covering the recreational and professional games. The goal of the ECB is for cricket to be the most inclusive team sport, through delivering the Inspiring Generations strategy and fulfilling the ECB purpose to connect communities and improve lives through cricket.

The ECB Board has the power to set standards in relation to on and off field activity and does so through regulations.The ECB General Counsel has executive responsibility for the ECB regulations, reporting to the ECB Chief Executive. All proposed regulation must be scrutinised by the Regulatory Board, who advise the ECB Board.

YOU’LL LOVE THIS JOB IF

  • You have a passion to design, create and deliver education and provide exceptional support within a safeguarding, anti-discrimination, discipline and integrity function across cricket
  • You can lead a team of advisors to achieve consistent and robust provision across England and Wales whilst also supporting any counties allocated to you to achieve compliance by leading through example
  • You have proven experience and skills within the Cricket Regulator functions along with a history of strong leadership and evidence of driving change within a team / network
  • You are flexible, adaptable and can work under pressure

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Assisting the Head of Education & Support within Cricket Regulator departments i.e. discipline, anti-discrimination and integrity as well as safeguarding
  • Supporting the Head of Education & Support with the operational delivery plan for the department
  • Line Managing a team of County Safeguarding Advisors (x 3)
  • Supporting CSAs with safeguarding cases when they do not meet threshold level and require additional cricket regulator guidance at county level
  • Allocate work to CSAs through a risk-based approach being the responsible person throughout this process to ensure concerns are picked up promptly, responded to and reported on in a timely manner
  • Providing guidance and sharing best practise on how counties can move towards compliance in safeguarding and strive for Leading Organisation status
  • Strategic liaison with CEO’s, Board Safeguarding Leads and Lead Officers to ensure consistent Safeguarding standards across the County network
  • Deliver educational talks to professional game i.e. The Hundred & T20
  • Lead on the audit & Quality Assurance Check process as required by the Head of Education & Support
  • Ensure ECB Safe Hands policies and guidance are up to date
  • Support development and implementation of digital safeguarding solutions including low-level safeguarding concerns within the Clue case management system.
  • Develop and deliver safeguarding training to ensure the needs of the cricket network are met including Board Safeguarding Training, Committee Training etc

YOU’LL HAVE

  • Experience of leading a team with proven track record of success
  • Experience in a senior safeguarding role
  • Knowledge of integrity across sport
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence and ability to deliver training and host events / meetings / webinars
  • Flexible, can-do attitude with a passion to create safer cultures and environments
