The role is genuinely technical, requiring strong Rust experience and comfort with secure systems, networking, distributed architectures and cryptography.

Qualifications

• Experience in Rust development and systems programming.
• Familiarity with secure-by-design principles and cryptography.
• Experience with TLS, mTLS and PKI.
• Ability to work in defence/security-sensitive environment.
• UK National Security Vetting eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing high-performance software using Rust.
• Building distributed and networked systems.
• Working with Zenoh / Eclipse Zenoh, including publish/subscribe and peer-to-peer communications.
• Developing secure communications using TLS 1.2/1.3, mTLS, PKI and X.509 certificates.
• Working with certificate lifecycle management, trust chains and secure key management.
• Applying cryptographic principles including encryption, hashing, digital signatures and key exchange.
• Developing resilient network services using TCP/IP.
• Investigating complex software, networking, security and performance issues.
• Identifying and reducing technical, architectural and cyber-security risks.
• Maintaining high standards across secure coding, automated testing and code review.
• Providing technical guidance across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
