Job summary

Understanding Recruitment is partnering with a high-growth European deep-tech company in London to form a new Rust engineering team. You will build and optimize the core Rust backend powering real-time communications, mission planning and autonomous fleet coordination.

This is a hybrid role with three days onsite in London. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of production Rust experience and a proven ability to design distributed backend systems with strong networking and concurrency

Location: London (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)

We're working with a high-growth, well-funded European deep-tech company establishing a new Rust engineering team in London.

The business is developing next-generation software for autonomous and robotic systems, tackling complex challenges around distributed architectures, real-time communication and performance-critical software.

The Role

You’ll be developing and optimising the core Rust backend architecture powering real-time communication, mission planning and the coordination of autonomous robotic fleets.

Responsibilities:

• Build high-performance backend systems in Rust.
• Develop low-latency communication protocols for distributed robotic systems.
• Solve challenges involving concurrency, multithreading and real-time processing.
• Optimise system performance, scalability and reliability.
• Collaborate with robotics and hardware teams on system architecture and integration.

What We’re Looking For

• Experienced backend engineer with a minimum of 2 years of developing production software in Rust
• Experience designing distributed backend systems.
• Strong understanding of networking, concurrency and multithreading.
• Experience optimising performance in latency-sensitive or real-time environments.

Previous robotics or defence experience isn't needed.
