Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Radiographer to join our friendly and supportive Radiology team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury. You will be joining a dynamic organisation in Buckinghamshire, where you can develop your career. We are looking for a highly skilled and ambitious Radiographer who likes a challenge, with at least 18 months post qualification experience.

We have recently had an extensive equipment replacement programme with a second MRI scanner installed plus replacement of our General Fluoroscopy room, Interventional suite and General x-ray rooms. This post will be based at Stoke Mandeville but the successful applicant will be expected to work cross-site as required. There is a requirement to participate in the out of hours service which includes weekend work and night shifts. Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust covers 6 hospital sites, 2 acute and 4 community hospitals, and the Stoke Mandeville site provides a full range of services including a busy A&E as well as its world renowned National Spinal Injuries Centre. There are dedicated staff and training facilities in each department and an active audit/teaching programme. We are keen to develop and train staff and support radiographer role extension, including U/S guided prostate biopsies, PICC line insertions, Barium Swallows and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Work without supervision in designated specialised and general areas of imaging, managing own workload and organisation of junior colleagues.
  • Vet and accept imaging requests and advise medical officers of the appropriateness of requests.
  • To undertake intravenous injection of contrast media by hand or by high pressure injector (over 16 years old) in line with the injection policy.
  • To undertake equipment quality assurance in line with QA programmes and take appropriate action.
  • Interpret images sufficient to discuss with a Consultant Radiologist further sequences within agreed protocols. In the absence of Radiologist, use experience and judgement of previous cases to take further images to demonstrate an area of abnormality.
  • Use of advanced imaging software in CT and MRI to produce required images and measurements.
