Overview

Band 6 Senior Radiographer

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Senior Radiographer to join our friendly team at the Great Western Hospital. The Radiology department supports diagnostics with digital plain film rooms, multiple CT scanners, interventional and mobile equipment. This is an opportunity for established Radiographers with NHS experience to work with state-of-the-art equipment, including a 5% recruitment and retention premium.

The Radiology Department undertakes approximately 251,300 examinations a year across a variety of modalities. The successful applicant will be a keen team player with a focus on image quality and patient care, and a flexible approach to working hours. The department supports development of clinical skills and education, and CPD is encouraged.

The department conducts diagnostic radiological examinations across clinical specialties, adapting techniques to accommodate a range of patient types, as autonomous practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team, meeting professional, departmental and legal requirements.

Responsibilities
  1. To independently assess and justify referrals under IR(ME)R 2000 following practitioner guidelines where appropriate.
  2. Able to interpret clinicians' requirements, determine the appropriate radiographic imaging technique and ensure it is performed in accordance with best practice so that resultant images are diagnostic.
  3. To use discretion to work outside departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate, e.g., undertaking additional or specialist techniques.
  4. To work out of hours to support the Radiology services offered at Great Western Hospital; night shifts may occasionally be required.
  5. To undertake CT/MRI/Plain Film in the absence of a Radiologist according to agreed protocols.
  6. To use the departmental radiology information system (CRIS) and be conversant with the picture archive communication system (PACS).
  7. To undertake Quality Control procedures, including QA testing for image quality and equipment safety, and to help with clinical audits.
  8. To undertake and participate in clinical audit and research, act on findings where possible, and provide statistical information on workload when necessary.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
  • General Radiographic training

  • Evidence of CPD
  • Postgraduate qualification
Experience

  • Post graduate experience in Radiography
  • Extensive CT experience
  • Experience of performing department Quality Assurance
  • Worked within NHS setting
