Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide timely dietetic care to patients, working effectively as part of the Acute Dietetic Team.

To provide cover to other areas in times of absence or clinical need.

7 day and extended hours working patterns may apply.

To educate members of the Medical team, Nursing staff, Student Nurses, and other healthcare professionals as relevant to the role.

Develop and support band 5 level Dietitians and Dietetic Apprentices.

Supervise students during placements.

Support/lead Dietetic Assistants.

Produce educational material and dietetic resources.

Person specification
Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Diploma/degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Current Health Professions Council registration
  • Member of British Dietetic Association, ideally including relevant specialist group
Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Competency in nutritional assessment of patients in varied clinical specialties across different population groups
  • Understanding of working in a busy acute setting, especially with surgical patients
  • Knowledge of national and professional issues
  • Understanding of clinical governance and relevant guidelines
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Practical application of artificial nutrition
  • Supervising Dietetic students
  • Managing caseloads in fast-paced acute environments
  • Developing department and service protocols
  • Working within an MDT setting to manage patients
