Job Description:

About the Job

A pioneering AI and robotics company based in the UK is creating the world's most advanced, reliable, scalable, and safe humanoid robots. Their first humanoid robot, HMND 01, is a next-generation labor automation unit designed to deliver highly efficient services across various industrial use cases.

Our Mission

We aim to create the world's leading, scalable, safe, and advanced humanoid robots that seamlessly integrate into daily life and enhance human capacity.

Vision

We believe in a future where artificial intelligence opens new horizons, enabling humans and machines to build a new era of knowledge and discovery. Our development of functional humanoid robots supports a future of abundance and well-being, where poverty diminishes and people have the freedom to pursue their interests. The evolution towards universal basic income is a key part of this progress.

Solution

As demand on our environment grows and labor shortages increase, industries like manufacturing, construction, and logistics face rising pressure. Deploying humanoid robots in hazardous or monotonous environments aims to protect human well-being and address global labor shortages.

We seek a highly skilled Staff Control Engineer to oversee locomotion control systems for biped humanoid robots. This role involves developing advanced control algorithms focused on precision, efficiency, and adaptability, including walking, balancing, fall recovery, and mobility tasks. The ideal candidate will have expertise in locomotion pipelines, whole-body control, and reinforcement learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement control algorithms (classic or RL-based) for locomotion tasks such as walking, balancing during manipulation, squatting, stair climbing, and fall recovery.
  • Model and simulate complex dynamics considering robot kinematics, actuator limitations, and environmental interactions.
  • Test algorithms in simulated and real-world environments to validate performance.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and perception teams to integrate control strategies into the robotic system.
Required Qualifications
  • Masters or PhD in Robotics, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in control systems for biped robots, focusing on locomotion.
  • Proficiency in model predictive control (MPC), optimal control, and feedback control loops.
  • Expertise in reinforcement learning applications for robotics.
  • Strong knowledge of humanoid robot dynamics and balance control.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and deployment.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation platforms like Mujoco, Isaac Sim, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ for algorithm development.
  • Understanding of advanced RL topics (model-free RL, imitation learning, hybrid control).
  • Familiarity with real-time control systems, actuators, and sensors.
  • Experience with sensor fusion for balance and locomotion (IMUs, encoders, force/torque sensors).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding actuator dynamics and modeling.
  • Deep knowledge of legged robot dynamics and control (ZMP, capture point control).
  • Experience designing control algorithms for actuator performance (torque, force, impedance).
  • Familiarity with SEAs, harmonic drives, direct drive motors, and custom actuators.
  • Experience with full robotic system integration and validation.
  • Skilled in HIL and SIL simulation design for control testing.
  • Experience developing automated test frameworks for actuators and control systems.
  • Knowledge of failure mode analysis, robustness testing, and system identification.
  • Ability to validate and tune controllers on humanoid platforms in lab and field.
  • Experience with gait optimization and energy efficiency evaluations.
Benefits
  • Highly competitive salary
  • 23 vacation days per year
  • Flexible working hours
  • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI, Robotics, Blockchain technologies
  • Dynamic startup environment fostering innovation
