Job summary

WSP is seeking a Technical Director to lead the Roads team across the UK, based in Scotland & North East, with client-facing responsibility for large, complex schemes.

The role requires delivering technical leadership, design management, audits, and strong commercial acumen while promoting health and safety culture and stakeholder engagement. Hybrid working across the UK is available.

Qualifications

• Experience leading large technical teams.
• Technical leadership and financial control of major road programmes.
• Proven Design Manager on major roads projects.
• Broad highway and multi-disciplinary project experience.
• Experience with Design & Build contracts.
• Proficiency with Civils 3D, OpenRoads Designer, and PDS.
• Drive change, lead teams and foster collaboration.
• Commercial and strategic capability to win opportunities.
• Familiarity with CDM and relevant design codes.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the leadership of technical project teams to deliver scope.
• Fulfil the role of Design Manager on complex programmes.
• Provide technical leadership and audits within the Liverpool office.
• Lead health, safety and wellbeing initiatives.
• Oversee preparation, review and checking of deliverables.
• Manage project risk and coordinate multi-disciplinary work.
• Allocate resources to meet fluctuating workloads.
• Collaborate with clients and design teams on compliant designs.
• Participate in tenders and business development as needed.
• Develop relationships with other WSP teams for resource leverage.
