Job summary

Spire Global seeks a Senior RF Engineer to design, analyze, and optimize RF subsystems for satellite and space-based communications and monitoring. You will lead module development, testing, and space qualification, working across software, payloads and manufacturing teams.

The role requires hands-on RF experience, PCB layout, and proficiency with simulation tools such as CST, ADS, HFSS, and MATLAB. A hybrid office presence in Glasgow is expected to support fast-paced, space-driven projects.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in design, development and testing of RF systems.
• Hands-on RF simulation, design and fault-finding.
• PCB schematic capture and layout for RF circuits.
• Experience with RF test equipment; network analyzer, signal generator.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design and development of RF subsystems for satellites and RF monitoring.
• Select components and lay out circuits using PCB software; simulate as needed.
• Lead production and test management for RF modules.
• Test RF modules at bench, EMC/thermal vacuum, and spacecraft levels.
• Lead RF testing, validation, and space-qualification efforts.
• Develop test plans and operational procedures.
• Provide technical consultancy to software, payload, operations, and manufacturing teams.

As part of the development of next-generation proprietary communication system, weare seeking a Senior RF Engineer withexpertiseinRF systems design, RF transceiver, low noise andpower amplifier design, antennaarrays, and a solid background in space-based communications,navigationor RF monitoring systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in high-frequency,high-power RF systems,ultra-sensitive receiver systems, withstrong simulation and analytical skills.The candidatewillwork on designing, analysing, andoptimizingadvanced RF subsystems for satellite and aerospace applications.The candidate should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to navigate in a fast-changing dynamic and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contributeproactively tothe design and development ofRF subsystemsfor our next generation of satellite communication,navigationor RF monitoringsystems
• Componentselection and circuit level design using PCB software (Altium preferred), along with simulation(CST, ADS preferred)whererequired;including transceivers for UHF, S-, X- and Ka-bands.
• Management of RF modules through production & test
• RF module test and fault-find at bench level, environmental level (EMC and thermal vacuum testing) and spacecraft level
• Lead RF testing, validation, and space qualification effortsfor new and existing systems
• Develop test plans, and operational procedures
• Provide technical consultancy support to software engineering, payloads,satelliteoperations, and manufacturing teams

Qualifications/Experience:

• BSc, MSc or Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications, Microwave or RF Electronics Engineering
• 5+ years ofworkingexperienceondesign,developmentand testing of RF systems
• Hands-on RF simulation, design and manufacturing experience and fault-finding during test
• PCBschematiccapture andlayout for RF circuits
• Experience with laboratory or field RF testing with relevant technical equipmentsuch as Network Analyzer, SignalAnalyzerand Signal Generator
• Measuring performance of passive and active circuits to provide data that backs up system requirements, including phase noise, compression points,associated chainlossesand signals analysis
• Tuning of RF circuits to achieveoptimalperformance
• Proficient in simulation tools (ADS, CST,HFSS, MATLAB)
• Proventrack recordof promoting cooperation andteamwork
• Demonstration of problem-solving skills and solution-oriented approaches when dealing with challenges
• Flexibility toshiftingpriorities and operational requirements
• Attention to detail,highly organizedwith clear communication skills
• Proficiencyin scripting languages and testing tools (Pythonpreferred).

Desired skills:

• Strong background in high-frequency RF systems (e.g., Ku-band, Ka-band)
• End-to-end RF system analysis, simulation, and optimization
• Knowledge of frequency spectrum management
• Knowledge ofstate-of-the-artRFanalogand high-speed digital signal processing techniques and technologiesusing Xilinx/AMDMPSoC/RFSoC.
• Passive and active antenna design, and antenna measurement techniques
• Experience of power supply design and EMI mitigation techniques
• Experience of digital circuit design including microcontroller,FPGAand high-speed transceivers
