Job summary

HENSOLDT UK seeks a Senior RF Engineer to lead RF/microwave module development, antenna design, modelling and verification. You will support other business areas with RF/antenna expertise and oversee production tests and issue resolution.

The role involves planning, documentation and collaboration with Supply Chain, Quality and customers. Strong English, plus hands-on microwave design experience, is essential.

Qualifications

• PCB design at microwave frequencies.
• RF component selection including high power amplifiers, LNAs, limiters, circulators, filters, mixers, PLLs.
• RF system design (e.g. cascade analysis).
• Familiarity with RF test equipment (e.g. spectrum analysers, VNAs).
• Antenna theory and design including array, slotted/printed antennas.
• Design for test and for manufacture.
• Experience in a production environment (SMT processes).
• Strong written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Proactively lead antenna and RF equipment development, via internal or sub-contracted work packages.
• Maintain antenna and RF designs for product improvements and obsolescence management.
• Oversee derivation of requirements and verification/validation.
• Provide technical support to Supply Chain, Quality, Suppliers and Customers.
• Support external antenna and RF designs and maintain production tests.
• Support RF module manufacture and root-cause analysis of issues.
• Ensure engineering procedures are followed and quality is maintained.
• Generate estimates, plan and manage small work packages.
• Ensure adequate documentation is maintained.

Job description

The Senior RF Engineer is responsible for significant work packages of RF/Microwave module development, test, and support as well as antenna design, modelling, and requirements. They support other areas of the business with RF/antenna design expertise.

Job Functions

• Proactively lead antenna and RF equipment development, via internal or sub-contracted work packages.
• Maintain antenna and RF designs – e.g., for product Improvements and obsolescence.management
• Oversee derivation of requirements and specifications and their verification & validation
• Provide technical support to Supply Chain, Quality, Suppliers and Customers.
• Support external antenna and RF designs and maintain antenna/RF Production Tests.
• Support RF module manufacture – responding to technical issues, undertaking trend analysis and root cause analysis.
• Ensure that Engineering Procedures are correctly followed, and the quality is maintained through design and manufacture.
• Generate estimates, plan and generally manage small work packages.
• Ensure adequate documentation is maintained.

• Any other tasks associated with this role.

Requirements Essential

• PCB Design at microwave frequencies - comfortable with manipulating schematics and defining/reviewing required layout.
• RF Component selection; knowledge of High Power RF amplifier, Low Noise Amplifiers, Limiters, Circulators, Filters, Mixers and Phase Locked Loop usage.
• RF System Design (e.g. Cascade Analysis).
• Familiarity with RF test equipment (e.g. Spectrum Analysers, Vector Network Analysers).
• Antenna theory and design and test including array antennas, including slotted array and printed antennas
• Design for test and design for manufacture.
• Experience of a Production Environment (e.g. good understanding of processes such as SMT).
• Self-motivated and enjoys working within a team.
• Good command of written and verbal English.

Requirements Desirable

• Familiar with Altium PCB Design Software.
• Familiar with Altair RF and antenna design software
• Working knowledge of radar or closely related applications (e.g., Comms).
• Experience of any of the following:
• Knowledge of digital electronics or power supply design.
• Experience of requirements management and/or systems engineering disciplines.
• Test Automation (e.g. through MATLAB or Python).
• EMC.
• Regulatory compliance (e.g. FCC, ITU or ETSI requirements).
