Job description

Responsible for the planning, resourcing, deployment and management within financial control of the catering services to ensure the services meets all contractual obligations Trust, and ISS business objectives.

Provide a high-quality catering service, offering a range of appetising and nutritious food and drink to enable all customers to have a choice reflecting their dietary needs and tastes 365 days a year. The service shall remain flexible to respond and adapt to customer and Trust needs, within a finite financial resource.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direction, guidance and support to all staff within the department to ensure they carry out their roles efficiently and effectively and comply with relevant legislative, ISS and Trust operating standards to achieve the department’s service provision objectives.
  • Maintain compliance with any applicable legislation such as Hospital Food Standards, the Food Standards Guidance, Government Buying Standards, and other legislation applicable to catering services.
  • Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships with all people related to the Trust, including staff working within the control of this position, other staff within the Trust, Patients and customers.
  • Ensure that quality monitoring, activity reporting and performance monitoring is fully and properly implemented and maintained as per ISS/Trust policy and procedure.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant current legislation as set out in Company and Trust policies and procedures and the related documentation, including the Employee Terms and Conditions Handbook, Employee Health, Safety and Environmental Handbook and Security procedures.
  • Manage objectives and targets and contribute to the overall contract objectives and will cover planning, evaluating and development of all catering offers.
  • Management of process to achieve offers promoting and delivering current retail trends into the environment.
  • Ensuring environment meets Health, Safety and Hygiene regulations and are also secure.
  • Identify resources required along with full budget breakdowns for each outlet inclusive of anticipated sales and bottom-line contributions per annum.
  • Ensure controls in place to provide detailed breakdown of finance v results and proposed forecast budgets.
  • Develop menu offer within all catering locations ensuring a selection of offers are developed throughout the sites.
  • Work with contractors ensuring both the Trusts and ISS requirements are safeguarded and timeframes are met.
  • Conduct the Company’s appraisal process for subordinates, identifying their development and training needs and facilitating solutions to address them.
  • Engage in the process to identify your own personal development and training needs and attend agreed training programmes.
  • To act as the ‘on-call’ duty manager on a rotational basis.
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
  • Previous experience in managing a large‑scale site or multiple outlet operation.
  • Able to read, speak and write English to an excellent standard.
  • Sound knowledge of food hygiene regulations, NHS regulations and food standards, equipment and Health and Safety.
  • Previous experience in labour management.
  • Previous experience in financial accounting, commercial profit, and loss account.
  • Experience of working with Trade Unions.
