Job summary

Stockport Council is recruiting a Senior Residential Support Worker for Bredbury Green Children’s Home in Romiley. You will lead shifts, supervise staff, and apply trauma-informed, relation-based practice to support children aged 8 to 18.

The role requires safeguarding knowledge, accurate record-keeping and the ability to implement care plans to ensure safe, stable placements within a busy residential setting.

Your Role

Bredbury Green is a new three-bed children's home in Romiley for children aged 8 to 18. We want to create a warm, nurturing and stable home where children feel safe, cared for, listened to and able to thrive. As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will help make that ambition real on every shift.

You will work directly with children while leading and supporting colleagues through everyday care. You will model calm, relationship-based and trauma-informed practice, using PACE to understand behaviour as communication and help children feel understood. You will lead the shift, guide staff, maintain high standards of safeguarding and recording, and ensure children's plans shape what happens each day. Your leadership will matter especially during evenings, weekends and settling periods, when consistency and reassurance make a real difference.

About You

Please tell us in your application how you meet the following criteria:

• Experience building safe, trusting relationships with children in residential care and working well with families and professionals.
• The confidence to lead a shift, coach colleagues, give constructive feedback and escape concerns promptly.
• A calm, curious and rights-respecting approach to children's distress, with an understanding of trauma, attachment and relational care.
• Working knowledge of safeguarding, care planning, risk management, the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
• The ability to write clear, accurate, timely records and support colleagues to do the same.
• A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or accepted equivalent, or willingness to achieve the required qualification within the regulatory timescale; good literacy, numeracy and digital skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, evenings, weekends and sleep-ins in line with the needs of the home.
