Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Responsible for system where all eligible patients within Lancashire and South Cumbria are identified and offered the opportunity to take part in trials and research studies.
- Responsible for ensure the team are adequately supported and developed to deliver excellent care with compassion
- Responsible for leading and developing the team and service by being a visible and strong role model providing leadership and direction to the team and advising staff and students across Lancashire and South Cumbria to reach their full potential
- Responsible for the delivery of clinical trials and research studies ensuring they comply with regulatory and Trust requirements
- Workforce Planning -Responsibility for ensuring vacancies are recruited to in a timely manner and in line with our recruitment and selection policy
- Responsible for planning the portfolio of studies
- Contribute to the research quality agenda

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- Appropriate NMC registration
- Mentorship qualification
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing
- Post Registration Qualifications relevant to the role
- Evidence of Education to Degree Level.
- Successful completion of a leadership and development programme equivalent to the Internal Band 6 Leadership and Development programme
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Masters degree in relevant subject
- Level 4 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience performing clinical duties commensurate to that of the role e.g. IV medications, Cannulation
- Experience implementing changes within nursing practice
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
- Knowledge of ethical issues
- Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality
- Significant clinical experience
- Knowledge of research methodologies and processes
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of standards and legislation that govern research practice in the NHS
- Significant experience of research in healthcare settings
- Thorough knowledge of good clinical practice guidelines
- Experience of providing leadership in a clinical setting
- Experience of setting up and delivering complex early phase clinical trials (First in Human and phase I studies)
Desirable criteria
- Experience of people management
- Experience of conducting challenging conversations
- Involved in dose expansion and dose escalation trials
- Knowledge of the PDPR Process
- Experience of budgetary management
