Job description

The EPIONE Senior Research Programme Manager will be responsible for a six-year EPSRC-funded initiative focused on developing new engineering technologies for chronic pain. They will oversee the successful running of the EPIONE programme, managing day-to-day operations and providing strategic oversight to support the programme's development. This includes full responsibility for operational aspects such as administration, finance, and practical support, working within the support structures of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Engineering Science.

The scientific focus of the project applies state of the art neurotechnology to chronic pain. This is a major challenge as up to 1 in5 people suffer from debilitating chronic pain in the population, often associated with conditions such as cancer, arthritis and stroke. The programme brings together multiple research teams working across Oxford, Cambridge, UCL and Glasgow universities who are united to try and develop a new generation of treatments, working on complex projects with a central focus on brain stimulation and modulation systems for chronic pain sufferers. This includes both implantable brain-machine systems and non-invasive brain stimulation technologies.

You should be educated to Degree level, or have equivalent experience with evidence of strong intellectual, numerical and analytical skills. You should have strong academic capabilities, proven leadership and financial management experience in complex organisations, and the ability to engage with technical and scientific material. You must be highly organised, an excellent communicator, and skilled in strategic planning, negotiation, and multitasking under pressure. Proficiency in IT and committee servicing is essential, while experience in scientific or biotech environments, regulatory affairs, and event or grant administration is desirable. Given the multiple responsibilities associated with this role, you must be able to manage your time and prioritise tasks independently.
