Job description

Cedar Recruitment are delighted to be supporting one of London’s leading institutes with the Recruitment of a Senior Research Officer to support the Chemical Engineering Faculty on an interim basis.

The role will be working for a multi-faculty and multi-national college, who have a population of over 15,000 students.

The main purpose of the role is to provide support for research groups, developing and implementing strategies and overseeing the funding and grant administration.

Rate: £31.00-£37.00 Per Hour

Contract Length: 1 year

Hybrid: 1-2 days in the office per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and assist with research funding bids
  • Support academics with proposal development, deadlines, and sponsors.
  • Set up and monitor budgets for research projects; advising on under/over-spends.
  • Provide post-award support and oversee the financial tracking of PhD students
  • Liaise with Research and Innovation Services
  • Process payments to casual staff and external contractors.
  • Collaborate with HR for research staff appointments.
  • Support strategic initiatives including REF submissions.
  • Maintain the database on research activity, consultancy, and funding bodies.
  • Advise on grant costings and draft business cases when required.
  • Network internally and externally to identify funding opportunities and foster collaborative relationships
  • Manage student finances linked to grants, including fees and budget monitoring.
  • Organise and support workshops, events, and strategic networking activities.
  • Promote departmental research and collaboration via various media and events.
  • Serve as the main contact for any research-related enquiries.
  • Attend relevant meetings and contribute data-driven insights to decision-making.
  • Support departmental administration as needed and provide cover during staff absences.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience of working within a HE environment
  • Previous experience of supporting with funding/grant applications
  • Experience of using online financial systems such as MyFinance, Axiom and Worktribe.
  • Working experience of providing administrative assistance to prepare for REF submissions
