Job description

We are looking for an exceptional senior research nurse to join the MPN (Myeloproliferative Neoplasm) Research Team within the Oncology and Haematology Clinical Trials (OHCT) team. This post provides clinical leadership for our expanding research portfolio and supports the team in delivering high-quality research. The successful candidate will work alongside the Team Lead.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Identifying patients suitable for clinical trials by attending clinics (screening notes/consultant referral) and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
  2. Participating in the informed consent process, acting as a resource and support to patients and their families.
  3. Coordinating the research patient pathway from screening through trial closure, including creation of prompts at the setup stage of the trial.
  4. Managing a large caseload of patients autonomously, ensuring a duty of care to patients and their families.
  5. Working within EU clinical trial directives in accordance with ICH GCP, ensuring adherence to protocols.
  6. Taking precautions to minimize cross-infection risks, including safe disposal of body fluids and blood products.
  7. Supporting trial drug administration, reporting side effects per protocol, and collaborating with local nursing teams.
  8. Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring documentation in medical and nursing notes.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Registered adult nurse with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience in clinical research within the NHS, with a strong clinical background.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, work independently, and manage a patient caseload across various studies.

OHCT is part of the Haematology Directorate, managing over 200 trials covering solid tumours, haematological malignancies, and non-malignant diseases. The team includes specialists in early-phase studies and is part of ECMC, based in the clinical research facility.
